More thoughts on Hamburg

I don't know what expectations I had. Most of what I'd heard about the city focussed on its seamier side.
I knew it was a Hanseatic port, but I assumed all traces of its past had been obliterated.
What a joy then, to find so much left of warehouses beside the canal network that feeds the port into the city.
Tonight we ate at a restaurant near the hotel.. I had Labskaus, a local dish that has spread to other western European ports in various forms .
Tomorrow we aim for my birthplace, Kiel.
