Cologne

Left Gent at about 9:00 - interesting route along and across tram lines. Satnav got us out, but I thought I'd fried the phone today. It's just come back to life after being in a coma for a few hours.
Arrived in Koln at about 1:00.
I'm sure it must have been a beautiful city before bomber command got to work on it, but first impressions were not good - shopping area claustrophobic and a bit brutalist. Turned out to have some brilliant street music though.
The cathedral is indescribable. How can stone  be made to look so delicate? Great to see commercial traffic on the Rhine. We came back to the hotel on the U-bahn.
Hamburg tomorrow. That's quite a long leg - 275 miles. The shoulders are beginning to ache a bit, but all going well so far.

The shopping area is an unattractive canyon

Pixellated window

Not sure what this depicts

The ICE train cometh

Fabulous pipe band. Played an Alan Stivell tune I love
